Everything you need to know
The questions settlors ask us most about establishing and using a trust, answered in plain terms.
What is a private trust?
A trust is a legal arrangement: you, as settlor, transfer assets to a licensed trustee to hold and administer under a trust deed — for asset protection, succession and wealth structuring.
Who can set up a trust? Do I need to be a Hong Kong resident?
Anyone of legal age with full capacity. You do not need to be a Hong Kong resident — identity verification is completed online with your passport.
How do I set one up, and how long does it take?
From invitation to due diligence, signing the deed and trustee countersignature — entirely online, typically 2–4 weeks.
Is my wealth safe with a trustee?
Client assets are held in segregated client accounts — never on our own balance sheet and beyond the reach of our creditors. CityTrust is a TCSP-licensed trust company registered under section 78(1) of the Trustee Ordinance.
What assets can the trust hold?
9 fiat currencies and 12 digital assets on one segregated ledger — plus card spending, payments and investment products, every entry recorded with its own exchange-rate snapshot.
How do I fund the trust — and take assets out?
Fund by bank wire or arranged cash deposit; entries are credited upon confirmed receipt. Outgoing instructions are earmarked on acceptance, reviewed against your deed, then executed by the trustee.
How are beneficiaries and succession handled?
You register beneficiaries when establishing the trust; the trustee distributes assets according to your deed, allowing wealth to pass outside of probate.
What will it cost me?
No setup or maintenance charges. Personal or corporate, every tier shares this one published fee schedule — you pay only for the services you use. The full schedule is in the Help Centre.
